The European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development supported the Ukrainian supermarket chain ‘Novus’ in becoming more environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The loan was part of the Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC).
Modern fridges, freezers and heaters helped the company to save energy: the new LED lighting uses 40% less energy and new fridges and freezers have cut consumption by 10%. As a result, the supermarket chain now uses on average 20% less energy than EU retailers.
